New ways to connect to inmates part of upgraded system
In an effort to make it simpler for loved ones to visit with and send money to inmates, the Ada County Jail is transitioning to a new system that combines those services into one simple system. Beginning Monday, Nov. 4, the jail will use the Telmate Remote Video Visitation. The new system adds more features like secure photo sharing, email and messaging between inmates and their friends and family. Inmates will also have access to web-based educational programs through Telmate. Inmates will continue to receive two free 25-minute video visits each week between the hours of 8am and 10pm. Additional online visit time is available for a fee. Anyone planning to visit with an inmate is encouraged to set up an account with Telmate now, so they don't miss any visiting opportunities. To visit with an inmate, you must set up a Telmate-verified account. You can create an account at the Telmate kiosk in the Ada County Jail lobby or online at www.gettingout.com. All inmate visits use this web-based system, so you must have a laptop or PC with a high-speed internet connection, a webcam, microphone and speakers. In addition to video visitation, Telmate will also manage all deposits made to inmates’ commissary accounts, so family and friends can now manage all financial transactions and visit scheduling through a single secure website. The new system will be installed in the different housing units in the Ada County Jail between Nov. 4 and Nov. 16. There will be no visits during the 2-3 days required to install the video visitation computers in each housing area. Click here for a detailed installation schedule. The current video visitation system will be active in all housing units until the scheduled installation date. After Telmate is installed, all visits must be scheduled and completed using that system.
