The law enforcement profession has a very stringent employment process to insure only the best will be called to serve in this high level of trust and responsibility. You must possess integrity, strong communication skills, a firm reassuring manner, and sound judgment under pressure.

All applicants must meet all of the requirements listed in the job posting. Additionally, you must meet the following minimum requirements and the Sheriff's Hiring Standards:

Deputy Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Idaho driver’s license and:

   Patrol Deputy:

• 64 semester credits or an Associates Degree from a regionally accredited college/university**
  OR
• Two years prior full-time experience in law enforcement with a recognized public safety agency as a commissioned or licensed law enforcement officer
  OR
• Have served four years consecutive, full-time military service

   Detention Deputy:

• High School diploma or equivalent

**Only those colleges/universities with regional accreditation will be accepted.  Regional accreditation agencies include: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges.  To verify if a school is regionally accredited, click here.

Non-Deputy Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet these minimum age requirements:

• Dispatcher: at least 19 years of age
• Jail Technician: at least 19 years of age
• Law Enforcement Records Technician: at least 18 years of age
• Driver’s License Clerk: at least 18 years of age
• All other positions: at least 18 years of age unless otherwise noted in the job description
