Star woman arrested on solicitation charge
Monday, Sept. 24
A Star woman was arrested after asking an acquaintance to burn down a rental property she no longer felt like maintaining.
On Friday, Sept. 21, Star Police received a report from a 40-year-old woman from Washington who said she had been asked by Debra Ball, 60, of Star, to set fire to a home in the 200 block of North Knox. The woman’s relative had been renting the Knox Street home from Ball and was planning to move out. Rather than paying Ball for necessary repairs to the rental, the 60-year-old instead asked the woman to destroy the house with fire.
The 40-year-old reported the incident to deputies who began an investigation. By Friday evening, detectives were able to confirm that Ball had, in fact, asked the 40-year-old to commit arson at the Knox Street property. Ball was taken into custody without incident. The 60-year-old told detectives she was tired of maintaining the rental and wanted it destroyed.
Ball was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of solicitation to commit a crime. She is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge this afternoon in district court.
